About US:

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, and PATH, funded by the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative, is conducting the “Post-Phase II Yellow Fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Campaign Coverage Survey in Uganda (Post-phase II YFPMVCCS)”. The survey aims to assess the yellow fever mass vaccination campaign’s performance, coverage, intervention reach, and equity.

Job Summary:

The Research Assistant will collaborate with the project research team to conduct data collection activities and ensure the successful implementation of the study in the designated regions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all interviewer training sessions, pre-testing sessions, and debrief meetings.
  • Facilitate appropriate community entry procedures.
  • Mobilize and inform sampled households, obtaining consent and assent from all eligible members.
  • Conduct mapping and listing of households in selected enumeration areas (EAs).
  • Conduct interviews with all eligible members in sampled households.
  • Ensure high-quality data collection, including callbacks to ensure coverage and data integrity.
  • Record data manually or digitally as per standard operating procedures.
  • Safely store and upload collected data to the designated server.
  • Maintain and hand over study tools to the field supervisor.
  • Provide daily updates on data collection and assist in preparing field reports.
  • Obtain and prepare necessary data collection forms, devices, supplies, and equipment.
  • Safeguard all study equipment and materials.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the position as assigned by the field supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Previous experience in similar field research activities within the last 5 years, including data collection, community engagement, mapping, listing, and household interviews.
  • Proficiency in collecting quantitative data using electronic devices like smartphones/tablets with software such as Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Valid Certificate in Good Clinical Practice and/or Human Subjects Protection.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams of at least 4 persons.
  • Fluency in both English and the relevant local language of the survey region (Runyankore, Luganda, Ateso, or Ngakarimojong).

Duration:

Contractual appointment valid for the data collection period, terminating upon contract expiry.
