About Us:

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, and PATH, funded by the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative, is undertaking the “Post-Phase II Yellow Fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Campaign Coverage Survey in Uganda (Post-phase II YFPMVCCS)”. This survey aims to assess the performance, coverage, reach, and equity of the yellow fever mass vaccination campaign.

Job Summary:

MakSPH is seeking qualified Field Supervisors and Research Assistants to support data collection for approximately one month. The survey will be conducted in six regions: Ankole, South Buganda, North Buganda, Kampala, Teso, and Karamoja.

Working closely with the Study Coordinator, the Field Supervisor will oversee and support field data collection activities to meet the objectives of the Post-phase II YFPMVCCS.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and support Research Assistants within assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist in training research assistants, including pre-test data collection activities.
  • Conduct district entry for research assistants and secure permission to proceed to enumeration areas (EAs).
  • Assist in identifying EAs, obtaining community entry permissions, and mapping EAs.
  • Support listing, mapping, and household sampling in EAs.
  • Ensure secure custody of collected data and adhere to quality control procedures.
  • Oversee field data collection, ensure accurate data submission, and submit hard copies of study materials to the Study Coordinator.
  • Conduct daily debrief meetings with research assistants to assess progress and address challenges.
  • Prepare and maintain data collection forms, devices, supplies, and equipment for the assigned team.
  • Submit daily field summary reports to the Study Coordinator.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Study Coordinator.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in similar field research activities as a supervisor within the last 5 years.
  • Proficiency in community entry/engagement, mapping, listing, sampling, and conducting household interviews.
  • Ability to collect, transcribe, and code qualitative data.
  • Valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice and/or Human Subject Research.
  • Willingness to work beyond standard office hours.
  • Strong team collaboration and supervisory skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to assigned field sites for supervision, coordination, and interviews.
