HerStart: Innovate the Future: HerStart: Innovate the Future, an initiative by YCI, aims to catalyze equitable and prosperous economies within Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda. The initiative engages Canadian Fellows and local participants in designing innovative solutions to community challenges. Training, support, and access to finance are provided to aspiring entrepreneurs, with a focus on fostering an enabling environment for young female entrepreneurs.

Position Summary: The Entrepreneurship and Learning Manager will report to the Project Lead in Uganda, playing a pivotal role in the HerStart team. Responsibilities include providing technical entrepreneurship support, fostering a culture of learning, and coordinating activities related to training, coaching, mentorship, and funding for HerStart participants. The position requires collaboration with partner organizations, Canadian volunteers, and the global YCI team.

Skills and Experience:

  • Self-starter with 5+ years of enterprise development experience in Uganda
  • Passion for investing in women and youth livelihoods

  • Familiarity with Lean Startup approach and design thinking
  • Ability to mentor ventures at start-up and growth phases
  • Strong network and understanding of Ugandan entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal development
  • Team player with experience in facilitation and participatory approaches
  • Understanding of gender equality principles and women’s empowerment
  • Experience in new business development and implementation
