Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. is a German non-governmental organization dedicated to excellence in various fields including first aid, ambulance service, and social service programs. Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) is the operational unit for humanitarian aid, with a focus on disaster response, health, and livelihoods.

Background:

Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe e.V. Uganda Mission is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Construction Engineer for a short-term assignment. The successful candidate will oversee the construction of a maternity wing in Rhino Camp Settlement as part of the Maternal and Mental Health Access and Psychosocial and Livelihood Support project.

Responsibilities:

Design Development:

  • Utilize engineering principles to create the maternity wing design and prepare tendering documents.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals and participate in the bid tendering process.

Construction Oversight:

  • Supervise construction work ensuring adherence to labor laws and organizational regulations.
  • Monitor progress, address technical challenges, and provide advice for improvement.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify construction quality and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Implement quality assurance measures and ensure adherence to building codes.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of project activities and prepare progress reports.
  • Conduct monitoring checks and inform management of any issues impacting construction activities.

Safeguarding:

  • Sensitize contractors on safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Report safeguarding concerns and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil & structural engineering.
  • Experience working with district local governments and in construction.
  • Previous experience in building health facilities is desirable.
  • Willingness to work and live in Arua for 4 months.

Skills & Competences:

  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Supervisory experience is an advantage.
