Key Responsibilities:

Major Activities:

1. Review, update, and implement WVU’s DRR and CCA strategies.
2. Develop a joint strategy with development partners for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
3. Provide technical support for DRR and CCA strategies implementation within WVU staff, local and national governments, and development partners.
4. Conduct training sessions for WVU staff on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation.
5. Support field teams in training central and local government staff on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
6. Ensure overall integration/mainstreaming of DRR and CCA into WVU Technical Programmes (TPs) and Household Clusters.
7. Document and disseminate lessons learned, success stories, and best practices for community resilience.
8. Coordinate field visits, monitor progress, and operationalize WVU’s DRR & CCA strategy.
9. Actively participate in meetings, conferences, and networks on DRR/CCA.
10. Support in organizing regional and international meetings involving policymakers, civil society, and other key actors.

Knowledge and Qualifications for the Role:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Community Resilience in Uganda or the East African region.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, or related field from a recognized university. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
• In-depth knowledge of key issues related to Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Community Resilience.
• Demonstrated experience in policy development and capacity building.
• Technical knowledge of community-based climate change adaptation, DRR, sustainable livelihoods, social protection, and natural resource management.
• Strong knowledge/experience in results-based management and a results-oriented approach.
