Key Responsibilities:
Major Activities:
- Review, update, and implement WVU’s DRR and CCA strategies.
- Develop a joint strategy with development partners for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
- Provide technical support for DRR and CCA strategies implementation within WVU staff, local and national governments, and development partners.
- Conduct training sessions for WVU staff on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation.
- Support field teams in training central and local government staff on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
- Ensure overall integration/mainstreaming of DRR and CCA into WVU Technical Programmes (TPs) and Household Clusters.
- Document and disseminate lessons learned, success stories, and best practices for community resilience.
- Coordinate field visits, monitor progress, and operationalize WVU’s DRR & CCA strategy.
- Actively participate in meetings, conferences, and networks on DRR/CCA.
- Support in organizing regional and international meetings involving policymakers, civil society, and other key actors.
Knowledge and Qualifications for the Role:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Community Resilience in Uganda or the East African region.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, or related field from a recognized university. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of key issues related to Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Community Resilience.
- Demonstrated experience in policy development and capacity building.
- Technical knowledge of community-based climate change adaptation, DRR, sustainable livelihoods, social protection, and natural resource management.
- Strong knowledge/experience in results-based management and a results-oriented approach.
