About GARD:
Grassroots Alliance for Rural Development (GARD) is an independent nonprofit organization established in April 2019, registered with the Uganda NGO Bureau. GARD envisions empowered and resilient communities and works in a non-discriminatory and non-partisan manner. With headquarters in Kotido Municipality and field offices in Amudat and Napak districts, GARD focuses on various areas including sustainable livelihoods, youth skilling, governance, and institutional strengthening.

Project Background:
GARD has recently entered an MoU to implement a UNDP/KOICA Building Resilience in Conflict affected and Fragile Communities of Karamoja (BRICK) project in Kotido district. This joint initiative aims to foster peaceful and resilient communities in Karamoja by addressing conflict drivers and enhancing socio-economic empowerment.

Position Overview:

  • Location: GARD Kotido Head Office with fieldwork in Nakapelimoru and Rengen Sub Counties.
  • Contract Type: Fixed term – 12 months with possibility of extension.
  • Salary and Benefits: Competitive packages.
  • Working Hours: Full time (40 hrs a week).

Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Community engagement, sensitization, and mobilization.
  • Formation of Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
  • Facilitation in implementation of food security, livelihoods, Cash for Work interventions, and peace building activities.
  • Transparent beneficiary selection and training sessions coordination.
  • Coordination of Cash for Work interventions and maintenance of accurate records.
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation, data collection, and analysis.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience, And Attributes:

  • National Diploma or Degree in Social Science, Development Studies, Agriculture, or related fields.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in implementing similar projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages and riding motorcycles in rough terrain.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Ngakarimojong, with strong knowledge of Karamoja context.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
